Children in the rural primary & public schools are often poor and do not get routine health checkups. Hence, common problems like refractory errors and chronic otitis media go undiagnosed. Uncorrected refractive error is one of the leading causes of childhood vision impairment, estimated to be about 10.8% in India.
Similarly, Ear ailments like chronic otitis media resulting in hearing loss and dental caries for which prevalence is estimated to be 68.8% and are major public health problems in children coming from poor neighborhoods. The Foundation has commitments from organizations like Aravind Eye, Vikram E.N.T. Hospital & Research Institute and local Dentists and ophthalmologists to support a screening program to rural primary school children. Once the problems are identified, the Foundation will arrange for treatments for these problems.
We strive to improve maternal and newborn health care by bringing current educational means like clinical simulations to update the current treatment methods in maternal and newborn care available to the providers.
Another program that the Foundation is involved is to help build Community Health Center in small villages who lack such services. The people from these villages travel long distances to get medical help. The Foundation takes advantage of the Public & Private Partnership scheme by the Government of Tamil Nadu to make a difference in the lives of these communities.
The goal is to make a lasting impact on the lives of children, the community, the mothers, and the healthcare providers who would benefit from these programs.
